Creative Fundamentals for Kids & Teens

Creative Fundamentals has been designed to fill an important gap in our children’s curriculum at Aphrodite Art School — offering a more technical, studio-based pathway for students who are ready to build real artistic skill and confidence.

This is not a one-off craft class.

It is a structured, term-based program where technique, discipline and creative thinking are developed side by side.

Each term, students will immerse themselves in a new subject matter, theme or medium — from drawing and observational painting to mixed media, portraiture, sculpture or contemporary practices. Rather than rushing through projects, students will work steadily across the term, refining one major piece (or a cohesive body of work) while learning foundational artistic skills.

What Students Will Learn

Drawing fundamentals (line, proportion, form and value)
Colour theory and mixing
Composition and visual storytelling
Technical painting and mark-making skills
Working from observation and reference
Creative problem-solving

Studio discipline and process

Students are given time — time to experiment, to refine, to make mistakes, to try again. This slower pace allows confidence to build naturally and skills to deepen meaningfully.

Creative Fundamentals is led by practising professional artists who bring real-world studio experience into the classroom. Students are guided not only in technique, but in how artists think, see and approach their work.

Workshop Details:

 Thursdays at 4:45pm (90-minute sessions)
 8-week program starting in week 2 (July 23rd)
 East Hall, 111 East Street Rockhampton.

Investment & Enrolment

Creative Fundamentals is a structured, professional studio program delivered across a 8-week term.

Term Investment:
$320 per student
$300 for students currently enrolled in another Aphrodite Art School program (Use code: Student20 at check out)

This includes all guided instruction, studio materials and access to professional artist mentorship throughout the term.

Because this program is designed to allow focused, individual guidance, places are intentionally limited.

Smaller class sizes ensure each student receives meaningful technical support and personalised feedback as their project develops week by week.
