Building Your Village: The Story of The Mama Brunch Club

Local mum Emmaleigh Walker has turned her own search for connection into a thriving community movement through The Mama Brunch Club — bringing women together for friendship, support, and a much-needed dose of self-care.

What does a Mama do when she is having trouble finding her village? Create it! That’s what local mum Emmaleigh Walker has done after the birth of her third child. I recently caught up with Em to chat with her about her creation and passion project – The Mama Brunch Club.

Initially starting out posting on socials about her experiences of family-friendly cafes and eating spots around the Capricorn Coast after realising that no such resource existed, the local mama community spoke asking Em for more – connection, community and events. The Mama Brunch Club was born and has already evolved into free events for local mums, fundraising events, with plenty more fantastic ideas in the pipeline waiting to be brought to life as time and space permits.

Chatting with Em you can see straight away her passion for ‘changing the story’, her personal mantra since the birth of her son is now applied across her life. Not only was she able to have a successful VBA2C, but she has also challenged her mindset to slow down and enjoy the experience of motherhood this time round rather than falling prey to the constant societal pressures new mums face. Em is keen to share her new-found knowledge with other local mums, creating connection,  and a village along the way.

With sold-out events to date, Em is keen to continue to curate a safe space for mums to come together. Events are free for mums to attend through the generous sponsorship of the local business community, making them accessible for all with connection over cost.

Em is always on the look out to connect with local businesses who have the capacity to collaborate and/or sponsor events for the benefit of the mums in the community or to even donate items for gift bags for the mama community. Sponsorship and collaboration are a great opportunity for start-up businesses whose target market is mums to connect directly.

There are 3 events on the calendar for the remainder of the year – Namaste’a While on 12th November with Abby from East Hall Yoga, Hearts for Ally & Aleirah on 7th December and Pilates and Lattes with Chloe from The Bump Clinic on 17th December. Details for these events can be found on The Mama Brunch Club social media pages.

The first major fundraising event for The Mama Brunch Club is coming up on Sunday 7th December with a High Tea at the stunning Riveria – “Hearts for Ally & Aleirah”. The High Tea has been created to rally around and support local mum Ally and her baby girl Aleirah, who are preparing for major heart surgery in Brisbane. In partnership with Riveria and sponsored by McGrath Rockhampton, the morning will feature:

  • A gourmet high tea in a stunning seaside location
  • Live acoustic music
  • Raffles, prizes and surprises
  • MC: Lucy Jane Busby

All profits from the event will go directly to support Ally and Aleirah on their impending journey. Tickets are available here.   If you are unable to make it on the day and would still like to show your support, a Go Fund Me page has also been organised. You can make a donation here.

There are plans to bring together mums in their pre-natal season together to share knowledge, wisdom and information in the new year. With so much information available in the digital age, coming together in community and connection to share information and knowledge is something that Em is keen to share with other mums. More information will be shared as it comes to hand.

Be sure to follow The Mama Brunch Club on Facebook and Instagram and keep an eye on The Wellbeing Hub website as information will continue to be shared through there in support of the fantastic contribution Em is making to our Capricorn Coast community.

Happy to send through bio. OH NO my wife has just reminded me that it is an all women’s group, well if I have too I will ware a toto. I am so passionate about young people and the enormous potential that is before them even if they themselves cant see it or feel it. Let me know your thoughts
